Preparation Course for Mathematics and Computer Science Freshmen

To prepare mathematics and computer science freshman for their upcoming courses of study, we organize a mathematical two week preparation course at the begin of each winter term. Lectures and tutorials similar to what you will experience during your studies give you a first introduction to contents and organizational details of your first semester. Organizational presentations provide you with the information necessary for your everyday student life (How does Wi-Fi work on campus? How do I put together my timetable?), long-term planning and free time activities in and around Heidelberg. Most importantly, game nights, hiking tours and pub crawls give you the opportunity to meet fellow students and future friends.

Where and when?

The preparations weeks start on October 2, 2023 at 8:45. The prep course will take place at the university itself.

Registration

To take part in the mathematical preparation weeks, no registration is required. Just join us on the first day. Even joining us later is alright.

Programming prep course

Also, if you have no programming experience and never worked with a terminal before, we offer a one week programming course the week before. Computer science as well as mathematics students are welcome.

Where and when?

The programming course takes place from September 25 to 29, 2023 (one week before the mathematical prep course) from 11 am to 4 pm in the Mathematikon building or online (We will inform you soon). You can find the rooms in the timetable below.

Every year we publish the Ersti-Info, a magazine (German only) with the most important information for getting started with your studies. Everyone will be handed a printed copy on the first day. Also, we hand out copies in our office.
