The Integrated Micro-Nano-Systems Laboratory (Prof. Thomas Burg) at TU Darmstadt develops fluidic, electromechanical, and optical micro and nanosystems for applications in medicine and biology.
We are looking for new team members with a strong background in physics or engineering who are enthusiastic about experimental and theoretical research.
The aim is to develop new technologies for isolating and detecting nanoparticles and viruses. Such technologies are needed in many fields, ranging from materials science to medicine and biology, including current research on COVID-19. An important challenge in these applications is to deal with the heterogeneous composition of real samples. Therefore, we would like to investigate some exciting new concept for reducing sample complexity that have been hitherto underexplored. These include field flow fractionation, thermophoresis, nanoimaging, and computational methods among others.
The successful candidate will join a friendly, international, and interdisciplinary team. The unique expertise of our group includes
microfluidics, heat transfer, label-free sensing, and advanced light and electron microscopy (cryo and room temperature). The city of
Darmstadt is located in the heart of the buzzing Rhein-Main metropolitan area within commuting distance from the cities of Frankfurt, Mainz, and Heidelberg. We are looking for candidates who hold (or will soon hold) a university degree (Masters or equivalent) in physics, electrical, or mechanical engineering, or in a closely related field. Prior experience with lithographic microfabrication is helpful. German language skills are not necessary, but fluency in English is required.
Opportunity for further qualification (doctoral dissertation) is given. The fulfillment of the duties likewise enables the scientific
qualifications of the candidate. The Technische Universität Darmstadt intends to increase the number of female employees and encourages female candidates to apply. In case of equal qualifications applicants with a degree of disability of at least 50 or equal will be given preference. Wages and salaries are according to the collective agreements on salary scales, which apply to the Technische Universität Darmstadt (TV-TU
Darmstadt). Part-time employment is generally possible.By submitting your application, you agree that your data may be stored and processed for the purpose of filling the vacancy. You can find our privacy policy on our webpage.
Please send your application including a motivation letter, CV, copies of academic transcripts, and the names and contact information of one to three references via e-mail with reference to code number 364 to burg-office@micronano.tu-darmstadt.de
